No the elections weren’t free or fair. They are all a set of crooks and they won’t take cricket forward. - Zaman Sheriff (Private sector employee)

How the public saw the cricket elections

Section Sports

Whether it was fair or not those elected should look to do good and develop the sport, not just attend to their unwanted business and political agendas. They should be open-minded and look to help the team win a world cup because there is so much passion for the game here. - Sam Peiris (Sri Lankan living abroad)

How the public saw the cricket elections

Section Sports

These elections weren’t free or fair. The same people are coming through and then some people can’t contest. The board’s practices should be reviewed and the corrupt removed. - S. Wijesinghe (Security officer)

How the public saw the cricket elections

Section Sports

I personally don’t pay too much attention about who claims which post; I’m a player and those are administrative matters which should be handled by administrators. But what I do care about is whether they will do what is best for the development of cricket and cricketers. As long as they do this, then I am happy. - Rashmi Jinan (Bloomfield Cricketer)

How the public saw the cricket elections

Section Sports

There certainly was politics involved in the election. But there are sportsmen present in the committee now so I think that’s a good thing. In the recent past we have selected good teams and fared well so I’m optimistic. - Piyum Udara (Student)

How the public saw the cricket elections

Section Sports

I personally don’t know about the workings of the cricket board so I try not to judge. But I think it’s time for a completely new board to come in and take charge of things because it’s the same people who keep coming in all the time. - Oshadhi Vithana (Self employed)

How the public saw the cricket elections

Section Sports

I’m not sure if the voices of all the athletes and clubs were heard. The correct system should be followed in selecting people for various posts. And I’m not sure the Minister of Sports should get involved in these matters because he is above all sports and should just oversee things and offer guidance. Him getting directly involved in matters is not a good thing. - Nimal Lewke (Former SLRFU President)

How the public saw the cricket elections

Section Sports

I think personal politics played a part in the elections, so no, it was not free or fair. With such politics making its way into the elections of the board I’m sure it will even come into the game, so cricket’s future here is in danger. - Asitha Jayasinghe (Private sector employee)

How the public saw the cricket elections

Section Sports

The current President performed his role well when he previously held office so I think this time too he will bring in some positive changes. Now we have guys like Vaas and Sanath involved also so I think overall our cricket is in good hands. - Amila Gunasinghe (Student)
