The British School in Colombo in its continuous drive towards excellence in education has successfully completed their latest creation ‘FAME – The Musical’ which was on stage with the participation of over fifty five students at the school auditorium recently.
In keeping with the school motto ‘Educating Mind, Body and Soul’ this drama has provided the ideal opportunity for the students to unearth their hidden talent and potential in this field.

The British School in Colombo earned great accolades last year for their innovative production of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Their latest production continues to demonstrate that they have set the standards extremely high for school drama productions.

A significant feature of BSC’s approach to drama is the fact that anyone who wants to be involved, is involved: whether it is an acting role, singing or dancing. All the students had the opportunity to showcase their skills.

With the school currently exploring the possibilities of improving the music and drama facilities, this production has provided a stepping stone for the students as a future career option and to move further ahead.

The storey line in this drama was a challenging but appropriate one for the modern world as it provided a message clearly that having talent is not enough:  one has to work hard, sweat and struggle to become a successful performing artist. Perhaps the young BSC students are also learning that this could be said about any profession.

The British School in Colombo has lived up to expectations in this aspect as this young teenage cast followed a strenuous schedule of acting, singing and dancing in preparation for the show while also maintaining high level of consistency in academics.

Sixteen year old Roshani Abbey who played the lead role of ‘Carmen Diaz’ is an example for this as Roshani benefits from a Sixth Form Academic Scholarhsip and she is an outstanding scholar as well as very talented actor, dancer and singer.
