Which way the JVP? JVP leaders (from left) Wimal Weerawansa, Somawansa Amarasinghe and Tilvin Silva arrriving at the ceremony on Tuesday to commemorate the death of the party’s founder Rohana Wijeweera and other members who died in the party’s two insurrections in 1971 and 1988-89. A move to proscribe the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is on the cards but there is no unanimity within the ruling alliance with the SLFP giving conditional approval and left and minority parties opposing it. The SLFP Parliamentary group on Wednesday approved a proposal to proscribe the LTTE if the movement continued its terrorist activities.

Migrants in distress CDMA phone shortages
Over 200 species of birds migrate to Sri Lanka, during the migratory period that starts usually in late August and extends upto to March/April. The bird visitors travel mainly from Europe and northern parts of India. Circulated on the email network of the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka (FOGSL) last week, were two more accounts of migrant Indian Pittas found in home gardens.
Sri Lanka Telecom(SLT)’s CDMA service is currently facing a massive revenue loss owing to inefficiencies in billing and shortages of CDMA phones, a senior official of the SLT audit division told The Sunday Times FT. CDMA phones were unavailable in the market despite sales promotions by SLT which paid Rs. 300 per employee to sell each CDMA unit under a circular issued recently by SLT CEO while suspending landphones from being issued which raised eyebrows of subscribers.

Sorry… Mr. Warne your fangs.... Emergency to continue for now.....
There is a local saying that one must never trust even a kitten born beyond the Bentara River. Well……now I have the feeling that it’s high time to dump that age old cliché and have a new one. I feel it should read as “never trust an Australian when it comes to cricket”. Pakistan's Pervez Musharraf told a top US diplomat today that he would only end his emergency rule when the security situation improves, a senior presidential aide told AFP. Musharraf met John Negroponte, number two in the US State Department, for talks which diplomats had said the US official would use to deliver ....

Challenges have just begun for me Winds of terror hit B’desh
It is quite tough being a professional cricketer these days but this week I found that it was even harder to sit out a match, as Sri Lanka took on the Australians in the second test which began in Hobart, Tasmania on Friday. The first day has ended as I write.... More than 1,723 people were confirmed to have died and the number was rising by the hour as soldiers and relief workers battled to reach the worst-hit coastal districts that were smashed late Thursday as cyclone Sidr roared in from the Bay of Bengal.

Poignant pieces of art Prince veerapandu - Mahawamsa
Poetry comes from the Greek concept of "making" or "creating." It is considered an art form where language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities, in addition to its perceived meaning. Essentially the expressing of one's thoughts and experiences, poetry is a myriad of emotions.
Commander Lankapura was able to win in all the battles there. Next he marched his army across the Vegai River and attacked a village there. Then he returned to their camp. Meanwhile the forces of Prince Kulasekera were getting ready for a fierce battle and that was to attack.....
