The Indian Government has offered undergraduate, postgraduate and research/PhD scholarships for studying in India. The High Commission of India, Colombo said the following ICCR scholarships for 2019-2020 academic sessions have been offered. Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme: This covers undergraduate courses (except Medical/Paramedical and Fashion Design) including Engineering, Science, Business, Economics, Commerce, Humanities and Arts.

Maulana Azad Scholarship Scheme: Masters Degrees courses (except Medical/Paramedical and Fashion Design) including Engineering, Science, Economics, Commerce, Humanities and Arts. Preference given to the fields of Engineering, Science and Agriculture. Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme: Undergraduate courses in the field of Information Technology leading to a BE or BTech Degree. Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme: PhD Degrees in subjects except Medical/Paramedical and Fashion Design courses.

The Indian High Commission said in a press release that the Government of India selects meritorious Sri Lankan nationals for awarding these scholarships. Selection of candidates is done in consultation with the Higher Education Ministry to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD Degrees in some of the topmost universities in India.
All scholarships cover full tuition fees for the duration of the course, monthly sustenance allowance, and annual grant for books and stationary. Selected candidates would be provided hostel facilities inside the campus. No student will be allowed to stay in private accommodation.

All ICCR scholars in India are provided healthcare facilities, airfare to the nearest destination in India and an annual grant for educational tours to various parts of the country, in addition to several other auxiliary benefits. Applications could be obtained from Ministry of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education website
