Girls’ 15s Rugby League to kick off in February

Women’s Rugby is increasing in numbers in Asia and the Asia Rugby Football Union is giving prominence to Women’s rugby in the region. Sri Lanka Schools will see its first ever Inter-School Girls XVs Tournament kicking off in February this year with 12 teams locking horns in the competition.

The tournament will be worked off starting in February in a league format in line with the Inter-Schools League Championship Boys event.

Already 12 outstation teams have shown interest and according to reliable source a few more teams from the Central region will add colour to this event.
The confirmed teams for the tournament are Kuliyapitya Central, Paduwasnuwara Central, Nugawela Central, Piliyandala Central, Ginthota Central, Devapathiraja College Rathgama,

St. Mary’s Yatiyantota, Dehiowita National School, Orubandiwewa Maha Vidyalaya Mahiyangana, Bandaranayake Maha Vidyalaya Ampara, Asoka Vidyalaya Anuradhapura and Kalundawa Maha Vidyalaya Ruwanwella. In years to come the competition is expected gain momentum with more teams participating after the initiative.
