Two sisters explore their love for art

Sisters Kevinja and Chelsea Karunaratne, have always had a love for art. Both students of The Overseas School of Colombo, Kevinja a second grade student and Chelsea a first grade student will present their first art exhibition ‘Little World’s Explorer’ today, Sunday, January 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Punchi Theatre in Borella.

The paintings exhibited include their first drawings and all works of art created since then.  Kevinja was keen to see that the exhibition also made a contribution towards helping underprivileged children, thus she has designed her own children’s story book, limited copies of which will be available for sale at the exhibition. Proceeds will be donated to the Helping Hands programme, to uplift the lives of children from underprivileged backgrounds.

St. Michael and All Angels, Polwatte Epiphany Carol Service today

‘Epiphany’ is a Greek word which means ‘revealing what was previously hidden, unknown and inaccessible’. It is an idea which the early Christian apologists appropriated as they sought to demonstrate how the God of Israel, the Creator of all, is revealed to the world in human flesh and blood through the person of Jesus Christ.

The Epiphany Carol Service by the Choir of St. Michael and All Angels, Polwatte, Colombo 3 will be held in the church today, Sunday, January 20 at 6 p.m.

Following the Epiphany Introit by Herbert Sumsion the service will commence with a procession from the East Wing. The readings are from the Bible, with poems and readings for Epiphany.

The Choir will sing carols suitable for the season interspersed with popular carols for choir and congregation. The choir is under the direction of Dr. Lalith Perera with Denham Pereira at the organ. All are welcome.
