Gulf Air, the Bahrain Government-owned airline, is pulling out of Sri Lanka from February 10 under a restructuring plan to improve the viability of the airline.

Earlier this month, the airline announced that it was ending flights to Colombo, Kathmandu and Dhaka under the reorganisation process to strengthen its Middle East operations and move out of other routes.

Mack Air Pvt Ltd, part of John Keells Holdings (JKH), is the local General Sales Agent for Gulf Air. A spokesman for JKH confirmed that the Bahrain airline was ending flights due to an internal restructuring process.

In the meantime, Malaysia Airlines is increasing flights to 10 a week from seven from April while Etihad is increasing flights to seven from four in coming weeks, airline industry officials said.

British Airways will start operating 3-times a week from Garwick from March 31st, Turkish Airlines is launching 4-times-a-week flights to Colombo from February 1 and Korean Airlines is starting flights from March.
