The first Islamic International Girls’ School commemorates 25 years of Excellence on 18th January 2013. ILMA INTERNATIONAL GIRLS’ SCHOOL, the brain child of Mrs. Rasheeda Mohideen, was established as a not-for-profit organisation on the 18th of January 1988. Ilma has been successful in providing high quality education, while adhering to Islamic principles. The efforts, dedication and commitment of the founders, Late Mr. A. H. L. A. Saleem, Late Mr. M. S. Alif, Late Justice A. M. M. Jameel, Late Mr. M. A. S. M. Mohideen, Late Mr. M. S. Moujood, Late Dr. M. M. Uwise, Dr. M. A. M. Shukri, and Mr. Osman Kassim made her dream a reality.

Ilma’s humble beginnings were at No: 33, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7, with 18 staff members, 140 students and classes ranging from Pre Grade to Grade 8. Alhamdulillah, today it has grown to a student population of 2500, 205 staff members and is located at No. 4/100, Thalakotuwa Gardens, Colombo 5. The School offers the British Cambridge Curriculum for students from Reception to Advanced Level. It also offers the National Curriculum to students of Grade 10, 11 & 12.

This remarkable achievement would have not been possible without the hard work and the commitment of the Past Principals, Ms. H. Hashim and Ms. F. H. Deen and their dedicated staff. The guidance and encouragement from the past Chairpersons, Late Justice A. M. M. Jameel, Mr. Mohamed Zubair and Mr. Javed Yusuf, the Members of the Board and the past Working Director Mr. Wazeer M. Sharieff.

Over the years Ilma has produced thousands of well educated young women, many of them professionals in fields ranging from medicine and the sciences, to business, IT, education and much more. The importance the school continues to place on Islamic values has always been a priority. As a result the Old Girls’ Association remains loyal to their Alma Mater.

Today Ilma International Girls’ School is reaching its heights with the leadership of Mrs. Hafeeza Ghori, Mrs. B. Saleem & Mr. S. Sawad and their energetic team of academic and non academic staff under the guidance of the Board of Management headed by the Chairperson Ms. Husni Hussain and comprising the Vice Chairman Mr. Ishrat Rauff, Dr. M. A. M. Shukri, Mr. Osman Kassim, Mr. Javed Yusuf, Dr. M. Z. M. Malhardeen, Mr. M. J. M. Mubarack, Mr. Mafaz Ishaq and Dr. J. M. K. B. Hajrajhan Mansoor.
As part of the 25th Year Commemoration, the school will bring out the talents of students from the 15th to the 17th at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.
