Cuba offers medicine scholarship
View(s):Cuba is offering one undergraduate scholarship in medicine for the academic year 2026/27, the Education Ministry has said.
Applications are invited from eligible Lankans for the award of an undergraduate scholarship in medicine offered by the Latin American University of Medicine (ELAM) 01.
The applicant should be a citizen of Sri Lanka and the age should be less than 25 years at April 26, 2026. (Should be over 16 years old and under 25 years old). The applicant should have a minimum of 3 passes at the GCE (A/L) Examination2024 in the Biological stream, conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka.
The applicant should also possess a good knowledge of English. (Should have obtained a “C” pass in English at the GCE (O/L) Examination and “S” pass at the GCE A/L Examination or equivalent.
The applicant should be in good health and ready to live in Cuba during the period of study. They should not be registered or following a course at a state university in Sri Lanka as an internal student
Studies would be carried out in Spanish. Selected candidates must arrive in Cuba between August 20-30 2026 to do the preparatory studies in Spanish.
The government of Cuba will pay for the education of the scholar, accommodation, food and medical care. The cost of an air ticket to Cuba and back should be borne by the student. The Ministry of Education will provide a monthly allowance of US$ 40.
Candidates who are awarded this scholarship would not be considered for the university admission process of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. Scholarship conditions laid down in this notification may vary as per the criteria imposed by the Cuban Government without prior notice. If any student declines the offer after the selection process, he/she shall not be considered for any future scholarships that are offered by the Ministry of Education.
The extension of the period of the scholarship will not be recommended by this ministry.
