The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) Sri Lanka had the distinct privilege of hosting Ms. Joni Simpson, Country Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, at a special engagement held at the CIPM Auditorium in Colombo on 17th March 2026, organised by the Standing Committee on Empowered Authority and National Role in HR.
The visit marked a significant milestone in strengthening collaboration between CIPM and the ILO, reinforcing a shared commitment to advancing the future of work through inclusive, sustainable, and globally aligned human resource practices.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Priyantha Ranasinghe, President of CIPM Sri Lanka, who reaffirmed the Institute’s national responsibility in driving HR excellence and its continued efforts to align local practices with global standards. He further elaborated on CIPM’s strategic direction, highlighting key initiatives focused on strengthening the HR profession and contributing meaningfully to national development.
Delivering her address, Ms. Simpson emphasised the growing importance of gender equality and inclusion in the workplace, drawing on her extensive experience spanning over 26 years. She highlighted the need for organisations to proactively address workplace malpractices while adopting progressive and forward-thinking HR practices, particularly in times of crisis and uncertainty.
She further underscored the critical role of HR professionals in building resilient organisations and fostering equitable work environments, sharing valuable insights shaped by her international experience across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America.
A key highlight of the event was the interactive discussion that followed Ms. Simpson’s address, where participants explored avenues for deeper collaboration between CIPM and the ILO. Both parties expressed interest in initiating capacity-building programmes, labour law forums, and social dialogue initiatives aimed at strengthening employer-employee relations. The potential to position CIPM as a strategic HR partner to the ILO in Sri Lanka was also thoughtfully deliberated.
The event concluded with the presentation of a token of appreciation to Ms. Simpson, followed by a networking session that facilitated meaningful engagement and professional exchange among participants.
This engagement reflects CIPM Sri Lanka’s continued leadership in the HR domain, further solidifying its role in supporting national priorities while fostering impactful international partnerships to shape the future of work.
