On 14th February 2026, CfPS Law School proudly celebrated the graduation ceremony of its University of London Laws Programme at the BMICH, marking yet another milestone in its distinguished journey of academic excellence. Recognised as a leading Teaching Center of the University of London, CfPS Law School commemorated this significant occasion by awarding Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) degrees and Certificates of Higher Education in Common Law to its graduands and diplomates.
The ceremonial conferrals were conducted by Ms. Sarah Henderson, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Laws of the University of London, underscoring the strong academic partnership that CfPS Law School enjoys with one of the world’s most respected legal education providers. The University of London Laws Consortium—comprising globally renowned institutions such as University College London (UCL), the London School of Economics (LSE), King’s College London, Queen Mary, SOAS University of London, and Birkbeck University of London—continues to provide unparalleled academic support, ensuring that CfPS students receive a truly world-class legal education.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Honourable Justice S Thurairaja, President’s Counsel and Judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, who attended as Chief Guest. The presence of leading figures in the legal profession, together with the leadership of CfPS Law School—including Mr. Saliya Pieris, President’s Counsel and Chairman, Mr. Sapumal Bandara and Mrs. Manouri Pieris, Joint Managing Directors, and Mr. Yohan Pieris, Chief Executive Officer—reflected the institution’s deep-rooted commitment to nurturing the next generation of legal professionals.
In a deeply inspiring address, Justice Thurairaja reminded graduates that this milestone represents not merely the culmination of academic effort, but the beginning of a profound responsibility. “He emphasised that the law places in their hands the power to influence rights, property, liberty, and even life itself – a power that must always be exercised with humility, empathy and integrity.” His Lordship underscored that the true strength of any legal system lies not in statutes or institutions alone, but in the character and ethical commitment of those who serve it.
Ms. Sarah Henderson echoed these sentiments, highlighting that the achievements celebrated at this ceremony are the result of perseverance, resilience, and the unwavering support of families, mentors, and educators. In a touching moment, she invited the audience to acknowledge the achievement of the graduands with a standing ovation. She also commended the CfPS academic faculty for their vital role in shaping capable and principled legal professionals, emphasizing that entry into the legal profession is both an honour and a responsibility to uphold the rule of law and serve society.
Addressing the graduates, Mr. Saliya Pieris emphasised that lasting success in the legal profession is built on diligence, discipline, and integrity. He reminded them that, as lawyers, they will be entrusted with matters affecting lives, livelihoods, and fundamental freedoms. He further highlighted the law’s transformative potential as an instrument of social change, encouraging graduates to cultivate a deep understanding of the communities they serve. Above all, he urged them to build trust and inspire confidence among clients, colleagues, and the wider public.
The ceremony also celebrated academic excellence, with medals awarded to seven outstanding graduates in recognition of exceptional performance. Certificates of distinction were presented across a range of subjects, including Public International Law, Jurisprudence and Legal Theory, Introduction to Islamic Law, Legal System and Method, Intellectual Property Law, and Criminology. The valedictory address for the Class of 2026 was delivered by Miss Khaalisha Ilham, marking a fitting conclusion to a memorable occasion.
