St. Benedict’s coasted to a convincing ten wicket win over Wesley in their Under 19 cricket encounter concluded at Kotahena to record their third outright win for the season.

St. Benedict’s having dominated the opening day’s play kept up the momentum when they had the Wesleyites, batting the second time, struggling on 99 for 6 on day two at the lunch break before bowling them out for 133.
The first day’s play saw the Bens bundling out the Wesleyites for 74 and then ending on 153 for 8. The home team resuming on their overnight score went on to make 191 with Madura Madusanka making an unbeaten 67. St. Benedict’s left with a simple run chase of 18 runs needed only 11 balls to achieve the target.

At Balapitiya Dharmapala denied Richmond from recording their tenth outright win when they put in some resistance whilst chasing a target of 201 runs and ended up with 129 for 9.

It was Even Stevens at the end of the first day’s play with Richmond being shot out for 113 and then coming back to restrict the Palians to 145 and then ending the day on 15 for no loss.

Richmond resuming from their overnight score sent the Dharmapala bowlers on a leather hunt and posted 232 for 9 declared in 49.3 overs thanks to a knock of 73 by A.K. Tyrone.

At Karandeniya St. John’s Nugegoda crushed Karandeniya Central by an innings and 54 runs with the match ending at the tea break on day two. The foundation for the Johnians win was laid by Lahiru Udara who slammed a career best knock of 185 which comprised 38 boundaries and a six.

The knock enabled his side to amass a mammoth score of 356 for 9 declared while Karandeniya Central in their turn was shot out for 97 and made to follow on with a deficit of 259 runs was able to muster only 205.
Right arm spinner Thaneesha Weerakoon was the wrecker as he had figures of 6 for 38 and 5 for 100 to end with a match bag of 11 for 138.

St. Sebastian’s dominated their drawn encounter against S. Thomas which ended at De Zoysa Stadium Moratuwa. The highlight of the match was unbeaten ton by Sebs skipper Anushka Perera.
