St. Joseph’s Convent cagers win U17 Colombo South title
View(s):St. Joseph’s Convent, Nugegoda won the Colombo South Under 17 zonal basketball final when they defeated Our Lady of Victories, Moratuwa by 72 points to 27 at Nugegoda recently.
At the short whistle the home team led by 51 points to 23.
After Our Lady of Victories opened the scoring for the day, the Josephians equalized and from there it was their game until the final whistle.
While the visiting team fell to pieces, the host team piled up points and dominated the entire game.
Ayesha Sandamli was in superb form with 34 points, while Chalani Perera 17 and Harini Ramalka added 10 points.
For OLV, the main scorers were Vishmini Nirmadhi with nine points, Hershoine Silva with eight points and Shashini Weerasuriya with six points.
Ayesha Sandamali and Chalani Perera of St. Joseph’s Convent were adjudged the Most Valuable and Best Offensive Player of the tournament respectively. The Best Defensive Player award went to Hershoine Silva of OLV.
St Lawrence’s settle for consolation victory
St. Lawrence’s Convent, Colombo settled for success in the consolation final when they beat Asian International School by 43 points to 24, in the playoff for third place in the Girls’ Under 17 Colombo South Zonal basketball tournament, held at Nugegoda recently.
At halftime St. Lawrence’s led by 24 points to 12.
Malshana Warnakula with 15 points and Melony Dassanayake 12 were the best shooters for St. Lawrence’s, while Prabashi Fonseka and Natalie Alivihara were the main scorers for AIS. (BM)
