Lyceum Wattala blaze to big lead

Lyceum International School, Wattala, with a total of 592.5 points, raced to a significant lead over the rest of the field at the 13th International Schools’ Athletic Championships, by the end of the competition’s second day, at the Sugathadasda Stadium yesterday.
Trailing a distant second with a tally of 485.5 points is Gateway College, Colombo, followed by Lyceum International School, Nugegoda with 362 points.

The athletes from Lyceum Wattala had an inspired day on the track, establishing a spectacular nine new meet records.

One of their most outstanding performers was Shilpa Fernando, who broke records in the one kg Discus Throw and four kg Shot Putt events of the Under 17 age category, with throws of 33.34 meters and 9.65 meters respectively.

Gateway College too had a productive day out, setting two records in the Under 15 boys’ 200 meters through Asiri Wijesekara and the boys’ Under 17 High Jump through Udantha Bandara. Action will resume at the Sugathadasa Stadium today, the meet’s final day.
