China’s Foreign Minister here tomorrow
View(s):Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will make a whistle-stop visit to Sri Lanka tomorrow on his way from a four-nation African tour.
Mr Wang will arrive tomorrow and hold a breakfast meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath on Tuesday morning before his departure.
The talks will focus on expediting Chinese projects in Sri Lanka, including the ones at Port City, as well as new Chinese investments. The Sri Lanka side will seek China’s assistance to encourage more Chinese tourists to visit the country and facilitate extra flights into Colombo.
Mr Wang’s visit comes less than a month after India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited as a special envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and met with Lankan leaders.
The Chinese foreign minister’s stopover in Sri Lanka comes on his way home after a four-nation African tour that included Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania and Lesotho. The visit has been described as an effort to deepen mutual trust with strategic partners.
