Performance at the GCE- Advanced Level, new syllabus, for 2012 showed an improvement in almost all the subjects compared with 2011, the Examinations Department revealed.
According to the analysis of the Research and Development Branch of the National Evaluation and Testing Service of the department, 69.51% passed Physics in 2012 as against 56.56% in 2011, 61.67% passed Chemistry in 2012 as against 53.62% in 2011, 27.12% passed in Mathematics in 2102, as against 16.67% in 2011, 74.9% passed Biology in 2012, as against 73.67% in 2011, while Electrical, Electronic and Information Technology showed a success rate 15% more than the previous year.
However, the performance in the Tamil and English languages decreased from 82.16% and 66.15% respectively in 2011 to 74.34% and 56.81% respectively in 2012, while passes in Sinhala language improved from 92.35% in 2011 to 96.19% in 2012.
