The Advance Technological Institute in Batticaloa will have a new building complex ready by next year, enabling authorities to increase the intake of students and expand the number of courses, the Institute’s Coordinator Selvaratnam Jeyabalan told the Education Times.
He said, though the Institute commenced courses in 1986, they have been able to conduct classes for only two courses for want of accommodation. Currently, only the Higher Diplomas for Accountancy and English are held.

The Institute comes under the purview of the Ministry of Higher Education.

Courses in Engineering, Information Technology, Motor Mechaniism and Civil Engineering will be held after the buildings are ready.
The new building, estimated to cost more than Rs 60 million, will have workshops to conduct technical courses and facilities for sports activities.

Work on the building in Thalankudha, close to Batticaloa town, is partially complete, with the second phase due to commence.
Students of the Institute recently participated in an islandwide talent competition for higher education institutes (Technical), and were placed second.
