Northampton’s Kirandeep wins top textile award at Graduate Fashion Week 2013
A student from the University of Northampton,KirandeepBassan, has won the Zandra Rhodes Catwalk Textiles Award at Graduate Fashion Week.  She beat 300 other students from across the UK and the world to the award, which was presented by Zandra Rhodes and Henry Holland.

KirandeepBassan said:

“I am thrilled that my collection using prints with vivid colours and bold shapes has been recognised by the judges at Graduate Fashion Week.”

Nick Petford, the Vice-Chancellor the University of Northampton, congratulated Kirandeep for winning and said:

“Kirandeep has worked extremely hard as have all the staff in the department of fashion to produce breath-taking designs.  I am so proud of her work and effort and wish her all the success in her career”.

Kirandeep was inspired by the variety of different surfaces, tones, colours, and lines in the decaying finishes of derelict man-made objects. Kirandeep layered fabrics to create her own textiles, and screen printed designs inspired by her artwork, using fabric manipulation to create interesting surfaces and texture.

The judges of Graduate Fashion Week included Hilary Alexander (Fashion Editor of The Daily Telegraph), Mary Karantzou, Nick Knight OBE, Suzy Menkes, Colin McDowell, Henry Holland, Cathy Edwards, Mary Katrantzou, Zandra Rhodes, Todd Lynn and David Gandy.

The university accepts applications for it’s 2013 September intake currently. Students after A/L’s could also complete the Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design course at Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) in Sri Lanka and complete the final year of the degree at The University of Northampton – UK. Students can also opt to complete the degree in country in the near future.
