DOHA, QATAR: A spirited Sri Lankan Hockey team led by Nuwan Anju Hewage went down fighting to Azerbaijan at the World Hockey

Azerbaijan who defeated Sri Lanka 4-3, will now move to the second round the World Hockey League.

Despite the close finish, the captain of the Sri Lankan lions Nuwan Anju Hewage was adjudged the best player of the tournament.

The Sri Lanka youth, who kept improving through the league, gave their much fancied rivals a torrid time during the match. Azerbaijan had to rally twice from behind to steal the victory.

Nuwan Anju Hewage after receiving the ‘Man of the Tournament” trophy thanked all the Sri Lankans present at the Stadium which boosted the team’s moral.
