‘Parippu’ is not he word

A key sports festival is over and some officials are heaving a sigh of relief that it has finally come to an end. Officials have been complaining that there were no doors to toilets and they had to cover the entrance with a towel when using these toiletsadded to that they also say that there was no water at the accommodation they were provided with. In one instance even a pestle had been used to mix the dhal curry that was being cooked as there was no spoon big enough to stir the ‘parippu’ curry. When the lady in charge was questioned about it she said that the facilities this year were far better than last year.
Down the drain

A staggering 3.6 lakhs has been doled out to re-make a press box in an outstation venue in Kandy. Media men have complained that they cannot witness a game as some iron bars are obstructing their view. So the authorities have doled out the money but as to who has taken it, how it was spent remains a mystery to date. The fact is despite all the money that has gone down the drain no job has been done!

Carrying on regardless

It is the end of the year and all dedicated workers are waiting to hear about the bonus. A leading sports body has allocated bonuses for 220 workers, amounting to Rs. 43 million. This body has always been in the ‘Red’ and how come these bonuses, those in the know, say. This popular sports body had even advised higher ups to cut down on staff. But nothing has been done and the sport goes on regardless.

Who will be the winner?

The much anticipated elections of a leading sports body are due to take place in March 2013. Already those who are hoping to get elected are flexing their muscles. In the running are two leading men in the body whilst a third, a former boss, is also trying to muscle in. Only time will tell who the ultimate winner will be.

The all knowing coach

A young lad from the Kalutara District has been in the limelight these days with the timings he has been returning in the sprint events. His coach has been going around asking for bets as to whether he will lower another record or not. It looks as if this coach knows about this sprinter very well and people wonder whether this athlete could be on speed enhancing drugs and the coach know all about it as well. The parent body is aware of this and is keeping a tight check on the lad.
