Hulugalle on houses for Borella-Wanathamulla residents

Lakshman Hulugalle, Director General, Media Centre for National Security, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, has written to us relating to a story that appeared in the Sunday Times of 17 April last year(2011) under the heading “Demolition for Development,” stating as follows;

“The article published in your newspaper on 17-04-2011 states that the people who have been removed from the houses in Borella and Wanathamulla areas will be given residential facilities in Avissawella and Homagama which is totally incorrect.
“These people will be resettled in Colombo and the suburbs.

“This article also stated that the occupants of these areas will have to pay rupees three million (3,000,000/-) to get housing in the Colombo city which is absolutely untrue and misleading.

“Further, the photographs that appear in the article are irrelevant and have no connection to this matter.”
