Another cable and satellite television service provider is entering the Sri Lankan TV arena focusing its content on the Tamil community in the North and Colombo. Ask Cable Vision (PVT) Ltd will provide cable and satellite television services after its licence is approved by the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC), a spokesman of the company said.

The company, located at the BMICH in Colombo, is a collaboration with Dish Asia Network (DAN) to telecast  “DAN TV” which is an international television channel, he revealed. “DAN” first started as a satellite radio in 1994 and with the success of this initial venture into borderless media, in 1997 “DAN” launched the first Tamil language TV channel named “DAN Tamil Oli”. The channel also claims another first, that it being the first community channels to be transmitted out of India and France, he said.

At present “DAN” broadcasts from its station in Paris
TRC is in the process of approving a new licence for Ask Cable Vision for a period of five years and has issued a public notice in the newspapers to verify whether or not there are any objections to the licence. This is a formal process for any new licence issued under telecommunication laws.
