Naadanu 2: An Evening of culture, talent, and celebration by Horizon College International
View(s):Horizon College International celebrated its 16th year of shaping Sri Lanka’s educational landscape, with an unforgettable night of Naadanu 2.
Naadanu 2 was a spectacular cultural pageant held at BMICH, brought to life with nearly 500 students between the ages of 7-18 from the Malabe and Nugegoda branches. Naadanu 2 embraced a mix of Sri Lankan traditions through incredible performances and vibrant rhythms, where every movement told a story and every costume burst with colour.
Naadanu 2 follows the success of Naadanu 1, held in 2019. “We are an international school but we play an important role in establishing Sri Lankan culture within our children’s minds,” said Mrs Maryanne Hills, Principal of Horizon College International. “Naadanu 2025 is a result of this endeavour. Through this, our stories and the legends come to life.”
The turnout clearly signalled the success of the event, with over 1500 parents at the occasion. The event was further honoured by the presence of Chief Guest Dr. Ravibandu Vidyapathi, Former Minister of Education & Higher Education, Dr. Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security & Cooperative Development of Sri Lanka, Mr. Wasantha Samarasinghe, and many other distinguished guests in the field of arts and education, along with the Chairman of Horizon, Mr. Upul Daranagama, Principal Mrs. Maryanne Hills, and invaluable staff members.
“This event is one of our most memorable because it’s only conducted every five or six years. It’s a collaboration between the teachers, staff, prefects, and all the students who have been working tirelessly to make sure that we represent our school and culture in a positive way,” said Head Boy Methula Herath.
At the heart of the event was the shining choreography by the school’s dancing teachers, Ms. Anjali, Ms. Nimmi, Ms. Samadhi, Ms. Kanishka, Ms. Shyamalie, and Mr. Kaveesh. The event’s success is a testament to their efforts in bringing out the children’s incredible talents.
The 3-hour event began with ‘The Lotus’ opening dance, and included captivating performances such as Rana Mayuraa, Gajaga, Rhythm of the Sacred Stride, Kuveni’s Evolution, Mystic Capture, and more.
“As a mother, I am very happy. When we enter our children to international schools, we are afraid that they may become distant from our culture, but Horizon has given them the opportunity to celebrate their identity. Every talented child, including my son, had an opportunity to shine today,” said Mrs. Maduka Perera.
“Our school conducts many cultural and other religious activities to make sure every student feels represented,” added Head Boy Methula Herath.
