Cabinet approves BIDTI MoU with Rio Branco Institute
View(s):The Cabinet has granted final approval for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute (BIDTI) and the Rio Branco Institute, the diplomatic academy of Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Although initial approval for the agreement was granted at the Cabinet meeting held on September 2, 2024, the formal signing of the MoU had been pending. The proposed agreement seeks to foster enhanced cooperation in diplomatic training and capacity development between the two institutions.
Recognised internationally, the Rio Branco Institute has played a key role in training foreign service personnel from over 57 countries and has established similar partnerships with more than 70 nations.
The MoU is expected to facilitate the exchange of expertise in diplomatic education and research, including access to academic resources, digital tools, and relevant publications. It also aims to promote stronger ties between the two countries through collaborative initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
The proposal was submitted to the Cabinet by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath.
