In Sri Lanka, students with a passion for Mathematics and Physics seek career pathways that are globally relevant and future-ready. Yet many remain unaware of the vast potential offered by modern Engineering in an age defined by Artificial Intelligence (AI), Automation, Robotics, and Green Technologies. Recognising this gap and the critical needs for skilled engineers in the face of rapid technological advancements and global demand for innovation, APIIT Sri Lanka has launched cutting-edge Engineering programmes designed to equip students for success in these transformative fields.

The Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) Sri Lanka, in partnership with University of Staffordshire, UK, has been a leading TNE-provider delivering British higher education in Sri Lanka for over 25 years. The APIIT Department of Engineering now offers two specialisations awarded by University of Staffordshire: BEng (Hons) Electrical & Electronic Engineering and BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering.

These programmes provide students with a strong foundation in core Engineering principles while exposing them to emerging technologies and global industry standards. Students begin their academic journey at APIIT and have the option of completing their studies at University of

Students may opt to transfer to  University of Staffordshire, UK to complete a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical or Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Both degrees are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Students who wish to gain even broader international recognition may continue for one additional year of study in the UK to earn a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree, which is accredited under the Washington Accord, making it recognised in over 20 countries including Australia, Canada, and the United States.

University of Staffordshire Engineering curriculum delivered at APIIT is designed not only to cover foundational theories but also to engage students with real-world technologies. Graduates will be prepared to work in fields such as autonomous vehicles, renewable energy, robotics, mechatronics, nano-scale electronics, smart embedded systems, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Students also gain exposure to advanced applications in telecommunications, AI integration, and even advanced medical technologies, such as remote surgical systems, ensuring they stay at the forefront of technological advancement.

Mechanical Engineering students will gain hands-on and theoretical expertise in mechanical structures, CAD modelling, automation, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The programme also includes modules in Mechatronics, Automobile Engineering, and Energy Systems – areas that are increasingly central to global innovation and sustainable development. Electrical and Electronic Engineering students, meanwhile, will explore circuit design, embedded systems, digital signal processing, communication systems, electrical power networks, automation, and smart infrastructure technologies. This combination of academic rigour and practical experience ensures graduates are job-ready from day one.

Graduates from University of Staffordshire Engineering programmes find employment in a wide range of high-impact industries, including automotive and aerospace engineering with leading companies such as Jaguar, Land Rover, Rolls Royce, and Bentley; energy and power systems firms such as E.ON and National Grid; and rapidly growing fields such as smart manufacturing, telecommunications, healthcare engineering, and defence. Throughout the programme, students have opportunities to engage in internships, industrial placements, and collaborative research projects, allowing them to build a strong professional portfolio before graduation.

Beyond academic excellence, the student experience is enriched through project-based learning and real-world exposure. Engineering students at University of Staffordshire participate in final-year exhibitions like GradEX, where they present their work to industry leaders, and benefit from access to cutting-edge facilities at University of Staffordshire, such as the Smart Zone and Innovation Enterprise Zone.

Why APIIT?
