The Government aims to limit the number of students to 35 in each classroom by 2021, stated Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam recently.
The minister also stressed that, however, this year the number of students in a Grade 1 classroom should not exceed 37, as there were reports of such regulations being violated for political and other reasons.

The Minister expressed these views at an opening ceremony of a Resource Centre for Primary Education under the “Nearest School is the Best School” programme, held at Kuliyapitiya Kilinpola Primary School.

The “Nearest School is the Best School” programme launched in 2016 aims to control drug addiction amongst schoolchildren, create awareness amongst parents on the importance of being attentive towards their children and create equal access to education for all children in the country, through the development of all schools.
