Nandana at the helm of Carrom
View(s):The Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) under new president, Nandana Gunatilleke kicked off its new term with the Mid-Year Novices Carrom Tournament. The Novices tournament which began yesterday will end on April 7, as the newly elected office bearers ook forward for an eventful year after the election held at the annual general meeting last week.
The election was held at the CFSL headquarters in Maharagama with affiliates, under the supervision of representatives from the Ministry of Sports as 11 office bearers and 10 clubs were re-elected uncontested. The new committee will serve for a term of two years under Gunatilleke, who is a former carrom player from the era of 1960s and 70s. He is the son of former veteran singles winner and national player M.D.S. Gunatilleke. Interestingly both father and son have teamed up to play in men’s doubles events at several national level tournaments.
Apart from the new president of CFSL, Nandana is also the chairman of Panadura Urban Council, others in the committee were re-elected. Rohini Mathiasz was re-elected as general secretary along with Langley Mathiasz, J.S.S.R. Rodrigo, K. Jayasinghe, R. Athauda and H.P. Guruge returning into the team as vice presidents. Among others who came back was Kamala Abeyweera as treasurer and Angelica Subasinghe as tournament secretary. Saman Peiris and Desmond Bartholemeusz were re-elected as assistant secretary and assistant treasurer respectively. The 10 council members re-elected were Poruthota SC, Madapatha SC, Feedo SC, Colombo Municipal Council, Evergreen SC, Homagama SC, Electro SC, Carromites SC, Lankan SC and Schools SC.
