Pint-sized Imesha Thatsarani led St. Joseph’s Girls School, Nugegoda to cager glory when she inspired her team to a 52- 46 win over St. Lawrence’s at the All-Island Under 19 ‘A’ division basketball final, played in Nugegoda recently.
However, at the short whistle it was St. Lawrence’s in the lead with 28 points to 24.
Displaying excellent court craft, dribbling and passing, the Josephians took the lead in the second half of the game and never let the game slip out of their grasp.
Imesha Thatsarani led the scoring for St. Joseph’s with 16 points, while Mishika Gunasinghe 12 and Anne Stephnie added eight.
For St. Lawrence’s Natasha Perera played a lone hand with 35 points, and Nicola Wickramaratne added seven.
Imesha Thatsarani and Kavitha Poornima of St. Josesph’s were adjudged the Most Valuable and Best Defensive Players of the tournament respectively, while Natasah Perera won the award for the Best Offensive Player. (BM)
