The Moreton Cricket Club from Brisbane Australia who will be making their 12th successive tour of Sri Lanka have made elaborate plans to donate a substantial financial support towards building living quarters for teachers in the Delft Island School.The support has been arranged on an initiative taken by northern naval Rear Admiral Ravi Wijegooneratne an old Royalist from the class of 56 group to help the teachers who travel daily by ferry from Jaffna.
The tour of Sri Lanka by the Moreton CC is a brain child of Baba Sourjah an old Royalist also from the 56 group who is assisted by old Trinitian Athula Unantenne.
They have made the tour even during the height of the ethnic conflict and have undertaken various projects besides extending their support to needy schools in the outstations by providing computers and cricket equipment, apart from building a pre-school in Hambantota for tsunami affected children.
The group is due to arrive comprises of four age group cricket teams numbering over 80 which includes the cricketers and supporters. They are due to play matches in Colombo, Kandy and Galle.
The presentation will be for the Delft Island teachers’ quarters is scheduled to take place on March 31 at Cinnamon Lake Rear with Rear Admiral Ravi Wijegooneratne gracing the occasion as chief guest.
