Air Force excels in national beach volleyball championship

Teams representing Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Beach Volleyball excelled at the National Beach Volleyball Championship which was held at Arugam Bay on March 24 and 25. The Airmen dominated the competition by winning the Men’s, Women’s and Junior championships while also clinching the third place playoff in both segments.

The noteworthy feature of the competition was Sgt Asanka Pradeep and Sgt Pubudu Ekanayake of SLAF defeating the reigning South Asian Beach Volleyball Champions, Mahesh Perera and Wasantha Ratnapala convincingly to win the Men’s championship. In the women’s finals, the SLAF duo Geethika Gunawardena and Dinesha Pradsadini defeated the much experienced national pair representing the Sri Lanka Ports Authority in straight sets.
The Junior Men’s final was won by Sameera Ratnapala and Ashen Fernando while its Women’s segment was won by Ruvani Thakshila and Shanika Priyadarshani. The Men’s third place playoff was claimed by the pairing of Malintha Yapa and W.L.S. Chinthaka. SLAF duo Nirosha Gunasinghe and Asha Siriwardena won the Women’s third place playoff convincingly.
