International Quiz Association (IQA), the world’s premiere Quiz organization, will be conducting its annual World Quizzing Championships on 01st June 2013.
Sri Lankan quiz enthusiasts get the opportunity to compete in this prestigious world event this year too as the Management Club joins hands with IQA Sri Lanka in conducting this Quiz in Colombo.
World Quizzing Championships (WQC) is an individual written quiz that is organized around the globe at almost the same time. The quiz consists of 240 questions, to be answered in a maximum allowed time of 120 minutes. The questions are divided over 8 categories of 30 questions each. The eight categories will broadly cover areas of History, Media, World, Lifestyle, Entertainment, Culture, Sports, and Science.
Nearly 2,000 people took part in the World Quizzing Championships in 2012. Quizzers from 36 countries locked horns in a battle of brains with 10 countries being represented in the Top 20. The overall winner was England’s Jesse Honey. England’s Pat Gibson came in second and a superb performance from the USA’s Steve Perry, saw him clinch the third place. The highest scoring lady last year was Scotland’s Anne Hegerty and for the first time ever, a quizzer scored full marks in one category, Ishaan Chugh of India scoring 30/30 on Media , a very commendable achievement indeed.
Lathikka Niriella emerged the top Sri Lankan Quiz player last year with a total score of 103 points while Haren Fernando was placed second. Chamara Sumanapala taking part in the World Quizzing event for the first time was placed 3rd ranked in Sri Lanka last year.
Pulasthi Rupasinha and Hasitha Fernando were placed 4th and 5th respectively while the top performers among the Sri Lankan female quizzers were Hasini Minuwanpitiya and Nipunika Wijayaratne.

According to Ruwan Senanayake, Sri Lanka representative of the IQA, who is also TMC’s official Quiz Master, Sri Lankan quizzers will compete against top contestants from countries such as U.K, U.S.A, Belgium, India, Estonia, Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia, Finland, Norway, Croatia, France, Latvia, The Philippines, Germany and Australia are expected to compete at this event.
The venue for the World Quizzing Championships 2013 in Sri Lanka will be the Distance Learning Centre at the SLIDA Building, 28/10 , Malalsekera Mawatha Colombo 7 and the quiz will be conducted in English from 4.00 p.m -7.00 p.m. on Saturday 01st June 2013
