Adeesha Thilanjana of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda was adjudged the most promising cricket star at the Coca Cola pathway cricket camp held at the Uyanwatta Stadium Matara over the week end.

Binura Fernando of D S Senanayake College Colombo and Hasitha Madushan of Richmond College Galle took second and third spots.

The above three together with Anuk Fernando ( St Sebastian’s), Kusal Mendis ( Prince of Wales),Thilakshana Sumanasiri (STC Mt Lavinia), Hashan Vimarshana (STC Matara), Madusha Ravichandrakumar(STC Mt Lavinia), Duleeka Brahmanage( D S Senanayake) Hashan Ramanayake ( Royal), A V K Tyron (Richmond), Dilshan Kanchana (Devapathiraja) Harsha Rajapaksa (Rahula), Hashan Dumindra (Gurukula), Sithara Gimhana (Richmond), Lasith Lakshan (STC Matara), Sanjika Ridma (St Servatius), Shanuka Dulraj( Prince of Wales), Sangeeth Cooray(St Sebastian’s) and Luke Jayadewa ( St Sebastian’s) were selected to the super round of the Coca Cola pathway.

The Aravinda de Silva cricket Foundation together with Coca Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd has been in search of untapped cricketing talent in the country since 2008.

The cricketers selected for the super round

Cricketers born between 1st September 1994 and 1st September 1995 are eligible to be nominated by their school heads on recommendations made by the school cricket coach. The selection panel at the Aravinda de Silva Cricket Foundation scrutinised their performance at the schools tournament and made the preliminary selections.

Eighty aspiring cricket stars from the districts of Colombo, Kalutara, Galle and Matara were short listed. Players from Hambantota had been omitted initially and four players were added subsequently. It was alleged that SLC’s district coach Matara had superseded the school nominations and included under aged cricketers resulting in some talented players being deprived the opportunity of attending the camp. Last minute substitutions aggravated the issue. It would be prudent if the Aravinda de Silva Cricket Foundation adhere to strict principles even for the preliminary selection in the future. There was much enthusiasm and talent shown by the cricketers that Aravinda de Silva and Stan Nell who did the final selection were in a quandary.
