Lasitha reappointed to ARFU

The Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) has re -appointed the Vice President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union, Lasitha Gunaratne, to its Executive Committee. His Period in the executive will continue till 2014.

Lasitha has also been re-appointed as Chairman of Youth Rugby Committee of the Asian Rugby Football Union according to officials of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union the local rugby governing body.

These appointments were made at the Annual General Meeting of ARFU Held in Kazakhstan last week.

Lasitha started his rugby carrier at the age of 13 while at Royal College and Captained the senior team in the year 1988 where the team became unbeaten champions. In the same year he represented First Division Team CR & FC who emerged the Champion team and captained the team from1992 to 1995. He also Captained the Sri Lanka Under 19 – 7’s team which toured England in the year 1988 and in the same year as a school boy he represented the Sri Lanka National Rugby Team at the Asiad in Hong Kong and played in 5 tournaments up to 1996.

He coached Royal College in 1988 & 1999 and as team manager toured with Sri Lanka Under 20 team in the year 2003 and 2004 and the National Team in the year 2009 for the A5N – Div (1) tournament. He was also a National Selector in the year 2005, 2006 & 2008. He was a council member Chief Executive Officer, Vice President and Honorary Secretary. In the year 2008 he was appointed to the National Sports Council. VP
