The Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) National Squash Championships 2012 kicked off at the SSC Squash Complex yesterday.

The participants who took part in this tournament were in 17 age group categories.

In the Boys under 9 age group category, Minuka Jayawardena, V. D Bellange, Ayush Wijethunga, D. H. Thinura Randima, D. C Hettige, Shehan Gardiner and G. Udayan got through to the second round.

However the competition among the participants was hampered because of the lack of participants due to the third term exams being conducted at present.

The Girls under 9 age group had only four participants of which C. Sinaly and A. Perera made it to the finals.

In the Boys under 11 age group, M. I. S Asmun, G. Amalan, R. M. Rajapakse, T. G Nirmal, J. M. Kahandakorala and P. R Korala made it to the quarter finals.

Under 11 girls age group saw D. Chamindrika, N. Weerasinhe, Sameera Deen, Lihini Kuruppu and A. S Halaladeen got through to the semi-finals.

The Girls under 13 age group saw D. Chamindrika, N. Weerasinhe, Sameera Deen and Kasuni Gunawardena, the present Under 13 women’s Junior Squash champion, get through to the second round.

It is interesting to note that both Kasuni’s sisters Sanduni and Naduni, who are also the Junior Squash Under 15 champions and the under 19 runner up have also got through to the second round in their respective categories.

K. L Udantha, Ukthi Napagoda, Mohammad Hakeem, Harin Weerasooriya, Druwinka Perera, H. M. P Osanda Nilakshana, H. B Balasooriya and S. I Dharmathilake got throught to the Quarter Final, in the under 15 boy’s age group.

Girls under 15 age group had Fthum Izadeen, Wasundara Suwaris, Kasuni Gunawardena and Sanduni Gunawardena through to the semi finals.
In the Under 17 boys’ age group, D. Hapukumbara, B. De Alwis, S. T Darmathilaka, K. V Dantha, R. Jayawardena, R. S Jayarathna and I Wijayapura made it through to the second round.

K. Hurulle, R. Rajarathne, U. Hewage, R. Jayawardena, H.R.S Laksiri, Indira Wijepura and M. S Wakeel were the quarter finalists for the under 19 boys age group.

For the girls under 19 age group the semi final qualifiers were, M. Methsarani, G. Jayasooriya, D. Elikawela and Naduni Gunawardena
The Women Open matches had M. Methsarani, G. Jayasooriya, D. Elikawela and Naduni Gunawardena get through to the semi final round.
