There were 44 teams battling it out for the 42nd Dialog Mercantile Rugby Sevens which was worked off for the second day at the CR & FC rugby grounds at Longdon Place.

There were no shocks on day 2 as most of the top teams went past in their first hurdle in their group matches. In the Cup segment defending champions MAS “A: edged out a strong Sampath Bank 19-12. MAS outfit are without Sevens sensation and Kandy SC’s Fazil Marija who is in the injury list.

Nishantha Wickremage the Past President of the Mercantile Rugby Committee said that 44 teams are locking horns with 7 of them making their debut at this tournament. We see a lot of new entrance coming in and lot of spectators too coming in numbers. He ended by thanking the sponsors Dailog for sponsoring for the 10th consecutive year and the Medical staff on duty.

Smart Shirts were disqualified for playing an unregistered player and they will be banned for 2 years.
