Six teams had the honour of qualifying to the quarter finals after the conclusion of the first day’s play of the Seventh Cambrian Cricket Wing Six a Side cricket tournament played at the Prince of Wales ground in Moratuwa yesterday. The teams to advance were defending champions Saracens SC, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, SSC, Bloomfield, Air Force and BRC.

The other two quarter final berths were undecided as the second round match between Moratuwa SC and Army ended in a tie with both the teams making the identical score of 58 while the match between Colts and NCC was in progress.

SSC made the highest score of the day’s proceedings when they made 67 against Police which they won to earn a slot to the quarter finals. The highest individual knock for the day came from SSC’s Chathupama Gunasinghe who made an unbeaten knock of 45 which included four boundaries and three sixes.

The CCW tournament held for the seventh successive year with Free Lanka Granite as the main sponsor and USS Services (Pvt) Ltd, HNB and Sanivk as co sponsors saw the participation of 24 teams which included most teams that are involved in the Premier domestic tournament in the island. the tournament will be continued today.

SSC 62 in 5 overs (Charith Jayampathy 30 n.o.) beat CCC 65/5 in 5 overs (Arosh Janoda 32 n.o.). Bloomfield 53/2 in 4.2 overs (Dilshan Munaweera 31 n.o.) beat Galle CC 51/2 in 5 overs (Dinidu Jayatilleke 21 n.o., Mahesh Buddika 19 n.o.). Saracens SC 59/2 in 5 overs (Indika Massalage 19) beat Old Cambrians 52/5 in 5 overs (Hasitha Lanka 33rtd). Moratuwa SC 60/1 in 4 overs (Anushka Fernando 32 n.o. Pawan Devinda 25 n.o.) beat Moors SC 59/5 in 5 overs (Janitha Jayawardena 2 for 9). SLPA 64/4 in 5 overs (K. Shehan 28, S. Yohan 20) beat Sebastianites SC 50/1 in 5 overs (Tharindu Madusanka 16, T. Lakshan 16 n.o.). SSC 67/5 in 4.5 overs (Chathupama Gunasinghe 45 n.o.) beat Police 64/3 in 5 overs (Manjula Jayawardena 34rtd).
