The Airtel Rising Stars initiative, which seeks to send a select group of talented young footballers to the Manchester United training academy in England, has whittled down its number of prospects to just 48, after a one month of rigorous trials.

The final 48 comprise four Under 20 players from Jaffna, five from Mannar, three from Anuradapura , three from Kalmunai [Batti], three from Trincomalee, five from Matara , five from Kalutara,three from Kurunegala, three from Kandy, three from Hatton, three from Badulla, three from Negombo and three from Colombo.

The next round of the programme kicks off this Monday, with a set of high-profile coaches from Manchester United drilling the boys on the finer points of the game.  Following this the boys will be divided up and will play matches, after which the final 12 Rising Stars will be selected and sent to the Manchester United training academy.
