Lyceum Project Rise Again Brings Hope to Children After Ditwah Disaster

View(s):

In times of adversity, the strength of a united community can create lasting change. Project Rise Again, initiated by Lyceum International Schools, has emerged as a meaningful humanitarian response, turning gratitude into hope for children affected by the Ditwah disaster.

What began as a simple appeal soon grew into a nationwide initiative, driven by the generosity of Lyceum parents, students, staff, and well-wishers. More than a donation drive, Project Rise Again became a commitment to protect a child’s right to education and a renewed beginning after hardship.

As of 31 December, the first phase of the project collected over Rs. 10 million worth of school supplies. From this, 224 stationery packs valued at approximately Rs. 4.5 million were distributed among affected Lyceum students and staff families, ensuring continuity in education during a difficult period.

Extending support beyond the Lyceum community, educational materials worth Rs. 4 million were officially handed over to Manusath Derana at the Derana TV Head Office, to Mr. Lakshiri Wickramage, Deputy Chairman and CEO of Derana TV. This partnership enabled assistance to reach children across the country.

A notable feature of the initiative was the active involvement of student volunteers from Lyceum Nugegoda, Panadura, and Wattala, who dedicated their school holidays to sorting and packing supplies alongside the Manusath Derana team. Their contribution reflected strong values of empathy, leadership, and social responsibility.

Beyond material support, Lyceum also focused on emotional recovery by hosting live discussions on post-disaster mental wellbeing through its social media platforms. These sessions promoted resilience, positive thinking, and healing for both children and adults.

As Project Rise Again continues, Lyceum International Schools remains committed to responding to emerging needs and extending support wherever possible, ensuring that no child is left behind.

Together, we rise. Together, we rebuild. Together, we keep hope alive.
