International conference at Peradeniya Uni focuses on climate, disaster and food safety

The international water conference on climate change and environmental pollution challenges and solutions for food security and public health brought together leading scientists, policy makers and young researchers from Sri Lanka and China at the Post Graduate Institute of Science.

Professor Wei Yuansong delivers the keynote address

This conference was to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the memorandum of understanding between Sri Lanka and China.

It addressed three key thematic areas, that of climate change driven by environmental pollution, public health, impacts and food and soil security.

Twelve lectures were delivered by eminent experts from Sri Lanka and China focusing on the disaster preparedness for extreme events such a Cyclone Ditwah, management of water and air quality, implications of soil health and strategies to ensure food security under changing climatic conditions

The conference provided an important platform for young scientists to share their views. The event also reaffirmed the importance of international scientific collaboration and capacity building, while underscoring the University of Peradeniya’s commitment to advance research and policy relevant solutions for climate reliance, environmental protection
and public health sustainability.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and emerging technologies in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable solutions for a heathier future

Vice-Chancellor Professor Terrance Mudajith was the Chief Guest, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Ranjith Pallegama was the Guest of Honour.
