“What amazing work and talent. We are impressed ……” “I am inspired by these photographers and moved by their work…” These were some of the comments made by the visitors to the INFOCUS photographic exhibition held at the Lionel Wendt on February 15, 16 and 17. The exhibits were the works of 23 ardent lovers of photography. They were coached in the subject by Panduka De Silva, professional photographer and lecturer who was also the chief guest at the exhibition.

The 170 photographs covered portraits, wild life, landscapes to street scenes done by photographers who are professionals from diverse backgrounds such as management, finance, medicine, law, tourism, sales and marketing, all united with one common goal; their passion for photography.

They had by attending lectures conducted by the Photographic Society of Sri Lanka learnt the art of composition, studying the effects of light on a subject, colour and its impact and assessing captured images critically.

These were among several other techniques they learnt which enabled this group of photographers to have the confidence to hold an exhibition of their own. De Silva had stressed that their “first 10,000 photos would most probably be the worst” emphasizing the need to take thousands of photos to reach a point when one can assess one’s creativity objectively.

The group’s creativity, technical knowhow and enthusiasm were aptly portrayed in the photographs displayed at the INFOCUS Exhibition.
