Thilina Silva and Geethika Jayatileke guided St. Benedict’s to an innings and 40 runs win over Moratu MV in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Kotahena yesterday.

Thilina laid the foundation for the Bens when he made an unbeaten and career best knock of 152 which included 15 boundaries and five sixes which helped St Benedict’s make a formidable 274 for 7 declared.

Geethika ended with a match bag of 10 for 83 as he undid Moratu MV’s batting in both innings. Geethika’s figures of 5 for 34 enabled his side to bowl out Moratu MV for a low score of 132 in the first innings and then he followed it up with another impressive 5 for 49 to bundle out Moratu MV for 102 in the second innings.

Isipathana had to be satisfied with a first innings win over DSS in the match concluded at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona. Isipathana taking first lease of the wicket made a mammoth score of 300 for 9 declared.

DSS in their turn, after being badly placed on 122 for 5 at the lunch break on day two, recovered through a knock of 75 made by Supun Madusanka to make 268.

The match between S. Thomas’ and Wesley at Mt Lavinia ended in tame draw. But the Thomians dominated the proceedings on both the days as they made 300 for 6 declared on day one which came on the back of a 119 from Devin Jayasinghe.

They then had the Wesleyites struggling for survival when they skittled them out for 130 in the first innings and Wesley made to follow on gave some stiff resistance to deny a Thomian win when they ended the day on 189 for 8.

Royal dominated their drawn match against Ananda at Ananda Mawatha. Isuru Gunatileke was the hero for Royal as he slammed a career best 154 which had 20 boundaries and two sixes and he was supported by an unbeaten 110 by Heshan Kumarasiri that included 14 boundaries.

The duo’s knock enabled Royal, resuming on their overnight score of 45 for 1, to post a massive 357. This was in reply to Ananda’s 253 for 9 declared.
