In the National competition for best e- content (e-Swabhimani 2012), Vidumanpetha web site was awarded with the Grand Jury special merit award under the category of e- Education & Learning.

Vidumanpetha

Scientific knowledge and information in the web is available in English, Tamil and other languages. Therefore, the people who can only understand these languages have the opportunity to take the advantage from this web based knowledge. Unfortunately, due to the language barrier, most of the Sinhala speaking people are not in a position to benefit from this enormous knowledge. To overcome this situation, on 2005 Prof. Asiri Nanayakkara(IFS) together with Dr. KumariThilakarathne (IFS) took a huge step towards the advancement of Sri Lankan Science Education By making their concept in to a reality. It is named as “Vidumanpetha” the first ever Sinhala Science web site, a path that anyone can walk along to grasp new science concepts, to learn and practice science with fun by using new methods, etc… In 2009 we redesigned the entire website to make it more user-friendly and launched it officially by the hand of Prof. P.W. Epasinghe, Science Advisor to H.E the President. All the articles were written in a font, created by Prof.Asiri Nanayakkara previously. According to the newly introduced laws and stands by the government we converted the entire website to Unicode and redesigned it in 2012. “Vidumanpetha” is a web portal, open doors to three major categories.
