Started with ‘Kadawunu Poronduwa’ (Broken Promises) in 1947, Sri Lankan cinema is to celebrate its 66th anniversary on January 21. The day also marks the 41st anniversary of the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka (NFC) and a series of programmes have been organised from 2 pm onwards at the corporation premises.

The theme of the day ‘felicitating country’s pioneering filmmaker Dr. Lester James Peries who took the Sri Lankan film identity to the world’.

A book written on Dr. Peries is to be launched and his evergreen movie ‘Golu Hadawatha’ (Silent Heart) is to be screened at 5 pm at the NFC’s Tharangani theatre. Made based on Karunasena Jayalath’s novel under the same title, the film is played by Anula Karunatilake and late Wickrema Bogoda.
