Queen’s Club tennis to commence on Jan 12
View(s):The Queen’s Club Open Ranking ‘A’ Grade Tennis Championship for 2013 will be conducted from January 12 to February 4, 2006. It will be worked off at the Queen’s Club courts, 221, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.
Entries will close on January 4, 2013 and the draw will be held on the 9th at 5.00 p.m. at the Gymkhana Club, Maitland Crescent, Colombo 7.
The Queen’s Club, which is the Tennis Section of the Gymkhana Club, is one of the oldest clubs in the country, and will be conducting its Open Ranking Tennis Championships on a grand scale.
Prize money and gifts will be over rupees one million. The men’s open winner will receive Rs. 200,000/- and the runner-up Rs. 100,000/-. The women’s open winner will receive Rs.100,00/- and the runner-up RS, 50,000/-.
There have been many Queen’s Club members who have represented the country in Davis Cup and other international tournaments. Namely P.S. Kumara, Arjun Fernando, Umesh Walloopallai, Niranjan Cassie Chetty, Ravi Subramaniam, Harsha Godamanne and Rajiv Rajapaske.
The following events are scheduled to be worked off. Boys and girls under 10, 12.14, 16 and 18 singles and doubles. Men’s and women’s open singles and doubles and mixed open doubles. Senior doubles for over 40,50, 60 and 70 years of age and wheel chair singles and doubles events.
Entry forms and payments should be submitted at Queen’s Club and the SLTA, 45, Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha . Colombo 7.
