Kandy MC parking fee collection to private company

In a bid to enhance its revenue, the Kandy Municipal Council (KMC) has handed over control of some of its public area for parking, to a private party, on a tender, officials said.

The streets, according to a KMC spokesman, are Sri Bennet Soyza Mawatha, Pansala Para Deva Veediya and the parking area of the Central market.  Parking fees in these areas were earlier collected by the KMC’s female traffic wardens specially trained for this assignment.
