Did Kotelawela’s charity come from Golden Key money?

I have no deposit at the GK but my grandfather lost Rs. 2.3 million. However, independently I would like to share with your readers my random thinking on their issue. Lalith Kotelawela and his wife had a ‘show-off’ TV programme in which they were promoting many charitable organizations and this was seen by thousands of TV viewers. The question is: Was it conducted with the hard-earned money of the elderly and sickly depositors?

Another question comes to my mind. In the ongoing US Presidential election, the two candidates depend heavily on fund raising money and people’s contributions to fight their costly elections. In Sri Lanka too elections are costly and parties have to depend on various factors. My random reaction is that Kotelawela came to the aid of the government at election time with an open cheque book – all the depositors’ money.

Is this the reason why he is out of jail and living a happy life and his wife is enjoying in a land of her own while GK depositors are committing suicide and others live a life of torture and hand to mouth existence? The government has not yet taken any concrete steps to remedy the situation.

I am glad the GK depositors handed over a letter to the President. The President has wisdom, serenity and honestly and I am confident that he will handle the issue to the benefit of over 10,000 GK depositors.
