Methkekulu Pre-School

View(s):

In a remote village off Galgamuwa in the North Central Province, Methkekulu Pre-School caters to 40 of the poorest children from two nearby villages.

The children are from families of chena farmers and a clan of Telegu-speaking gypsies.With the recently prevailing drought in the area, the tanks and wells have dried up and there is a severe lack of water. Without water the farmers are unable to cultivate their land so food is also scarce.

Despite their difficulties, these children enjoy the free education and food given to them by the Methwela Foundation. At the pre-school they seemed quite cheerful and active, enthusiastically showing their dancing skills.
