Stakeholder consultations to be held on education reforms

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya met academics this week regarding the proposed new education reforms.

The discussion was held at the Senate Hall of the University of Colombo.

Education Ministry officials, Prof Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri, President of the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations, university academics including professors and senior lecturers, representatives of teachers’ unions, and civil society organisations were present.

Academics brought up a series of issues concerning the reforms.

The prime minister and officials explained that the reforms will be implemented only after a consultation takes place with all stakeholders.
