The Department of Business Economics of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, successfully concluded J’Pura Expo 2025, a landmark initiative that continued to drive Sri Lanka’s export competitiveness to new heights for the fourth consecutive year. Building on the success of its three previous editions, this year’s Expo took a transformative leap forward, working hand in hand with industry experts and policymakers to empower Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), inspire entrepreneurs, and promote sustainable economic progress.
The event series aimed to elevate Sri Lanka’s export competitiveness through empowerment, collaboration, and innovation, positioning the nation as a vital and sustainable player in the global marketplace.
In this year, 7 successful events were featured under the umbrella of J’Pura Expo 2025:
Sri Lanka 360°
A captivating digital e-book unveiling hidden travel destinations across the island, promoting authentic local experiences and supporting sustainable tourism while strengthening community-based economies.
Export Readiness Clinic
A unique platform where SMEs showcased their products while receiving expert guidance on market entry, branding, accounting, legal aspects, export strategies, and other essential areas.
Workshops
Comprehensive knowledge-sharing sessions equipped SMEs with essential skills across four key areas:
• Opportunities for SMEs – Session by Colombo Stock Exchange.
• SLS & Halal Certification Guide – Conducted by the SLS Institution and National Chamber of Exporters.
• Micro Financing Guide – Conducted by the Bank of Ceylon.
• Digital Marketing Programme – Conducted by Mr. Chandika Witharana.
These workshops provided valuable insights into certification, financing, and digital transformation, strengthening the export readiness of participating SMEs.
Industry Forum
A key highlight of the J’Pura Expo, the Industry Forum addressed the theme “Sri Lanka’s 3-Million Tourist Target: Balancing Growth, Governance, and Sustainability.” Through expert discussions and diverse perspectives, the session inspired actionable ideas and policy recommendations to promote sustainable tourism while safeguarding the interests of local entrepreneurs.
Venture Vista
A dynamic stage where SMEs and entrepreneurs pitched export-oriented business ideas to potential investors, gaining valuable mentorship and exposure to global market opportunities.
Export Hub
A digital initiative that enhanced the online visibility of Sri Lankan SMEs by featuring their profiles and products on a unified platform, connecting emerging enterprises with international buyers and strengthening their global presence.
ExpoGenius Quest
An innovation competition that brought together university undergraduates from across the island to present practical, export-ready solutions addressing real-world challenges. The event celebrated creativity, originality, and market potential, recognising outstanding ideas with the power to make a global impact.
J’Pura Expo 2025 was successfully held on the 28th of October at the BMICH and on the 29th of October at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura premises, marking another remarkable milestone in its legacy.
From ideas to impact, J’Pura Expo 2025 stood as a bridge between vision and reality. By nurturing a generation of visionary thinkers and resilient entrepreneurs, it continues to shape Sri Lanka’s journey toward a globally competitive and economically inclusive future.
