NIBM Students Shine on Global Stage at Ural Federal University’s International Summer School 2024
View(s):Four talented students from the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM), Sri Lanka represented the nation with pride and excellence at the prestigious International Summer School 2025 hosted by the Ural Federal University, Russia, a fully sponsored two-week immersion in innovation, global leadership, and transnational education.
Held from July 21 to August 3 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, the Summer School brought together high-performing students from over 20 countries, creating a vibrant academic and intercultural environment. Hosted by Ural Federal University (UrFU) one of Russia’s top public research universities, the programme focused on empowering students with practical, future-facing skills while strengthening international academic networks.

A Future-Focused Curriculum
for Global Learners
The programme featured a hands-on, interdisciplinary curriculum crafted around six critical global learning areas:
- Machine Learning and AI
- Exploratory Data Analysis

- Time Series Forecasting and Deep Learning

Students attended lectures, labs, and simulations led by international faculty and industry experts. The experience allows participants to apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges through a multicultural lens.

“I was most drawn to the depth of the data science modules, particularly Time Series Forecasting. But what really stayed with me was the cultural exchange, sharing Sri Lankan traditions at the National Hospitality Night and learning about others opened my eyes to the beauty of global diversity.”

“For me, the Hackathon and deep learning sessions were career-defining. I now understand how theory applies to solving real-world problems. The friendships I’ve built across countries are an added bonus that I’ll always value.”

The academic agenda was seamlessly paired with cultural and experiential learning, including:
- Russian language and culture classes
- Guided tours of Yekaterinburg and the symbolic Europe-Asia Border
- Visits to innovation hubs and companies
- Leadership workshops, team-building challenges, and a Hackathon
- Themed cultural exchange nights and collaborative presentations
Students got the rare opportunity to represent Sri Lanka on an international stage, sharing their national identity through culture, music, food, and tradition, leaving a lasting impression on their peers and faculty from around the world.
